Kevin Chai completed a PhD in computer science at Curtin University in the areas of data mining, machine learning and the Web/social media. Kevin then worked as a Research Fellow at the University of New South Wales in the Centre for Health Informatics within the Australian Institute for Health Innovation. His research involved developing machine learning and natural language processing software to analyse large medical research datasets and to provide computing expertise to health researchers and healthcare professionals. He was also involved in a collaboration with The Kirby Institute for Infection and Immunity in Society for exploring, analysing and visualising (geo-spatial and geo-temporal) the spread of infectious diseases in Australia. More recently, Kevin worked as a Data Scientist for the Curtin Analytics team within the Transforming Curtin IT Program to develop models for understanding student populations and predicting student attrition.
