Dr Jamiu Ekundayo

Jamiu is a first-class graduate of the University of Lagos and holds a PhD from Curtin University and MSc from the Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi, UAE. All his degrees are in petroleum and gas engineering.
Previously, Jamiu worked for 7 years as a reservoir engineer, integrating large amounts of data from multiple sources to develop history-matched models for field development planning and business decision-making.
He started his data science career in 2017 as a freelancer, teaching python programming and helping fellow researchers to automate their research data analysis workflows. Towards the end of his PhD, Jamiu worked with the South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS) as an IPREP student and then with Woodside Energies as a vacation student. He later joined SMHS as a research officer, where he worked on the Radiology Choosing Wisely project and developed a decision support tool to help clinicians reduce unnecessary imaging requests. He also worked concurrently as a research associate at Curtin University, where he developed a machine learning solution for an ANLEC R&D-funded project aimed at reducing uncertainties in carbon dioxide injectivity into a geological formation.
Jamiu joined the CIC in 2022 as a senior data scientist working on various projects, including collaborations on different research and industrial projects.
His key competencies and research interests include:
- Data Analytics – Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, and Computer Vision
- Python & R programming, BI, and Dashboarding with R Shiny and Power BI
- Reservoir Characterization and Simulation for FDP, CCS, and Geothermal Energy
