Multimodal Analysis Group
The Multimodal Analysis Group specialised in multimodal discourse analysis, an interdisciplinary field of research that provides powerful analytical frameworks for analysing how language, images and other resources combine to communicate meaning in texts, interactions and events. The Multimodal Analysis Group has been working closely with the Curtin Institute for Computation in order to develop mixed methods approaches for large-scale multimodal analysis and corpus-based empirical grounding and testing of insights. The aim was to integrate multimodal analysis with data mining and information visualisation in order to map discourse patterns and trends in big data. This scientific program of research had implications for what promises to be a key field of study in the future: the interpretation of socio-cultural behaviour in the age of digital technology.
